Some 2017 shots of the same male Anna's hummingbird and a female
I've had luck with getting these shots while the birds are at my backyard feeder. And it's been fun and educational adjusting the camera to the hummers' moods and the lighting. Refilling the feeder is always a great opportunity - the male especially begs like a cat awaiting its morning kibble.

Female Anna's. The original shot is in color, but this angle only showed a bit of her green back so I preferred the picture in black and white. The feeder is on the edge of a covered patio, so I can get some dramatically dark contrast. |

Calypte anna, female, in color. |

On the other hand, the male only stars in technicolor. |

The male after I placed the refilled feeder at a lower spot. He looks like the inspiration for a new super hero, maybe HummingBoy. |

Another fierce look at the feeder. |

He's sitting in a bougainvillea bush just over our yard's wall, where he's got an uninterrrupted view of HIS feeder. |

I'm convinced that some birds have a personality. And messy chins - it's good to know he's got flower pollen as a back-up if I don't refill the feeder in time. |
