Caribbean Birding

Bird Shots from a Caribbean Cruise (December 2016)

While this year's Christmas cruise wasn't our first to the Caribbean, it was the first where I was able to bird there with my 250mm zoom lens. We were on the Royal Princess for ten days, and it included stops in Eleuthera ( Princess Cays in the Bahamas), Saint Thomas, Antigua, Saint Lucia, Barbados and Saint Kitts. I did a little homework, picking up a Princeton Field Guides copy of  "Birds of the West Indies."  We didn't deviate much from our normal vacation activities like going to the beach for the day, so I mostly explored along the shore snapping shots of birds that were in the brush, near the water or flying overhead.  Next time I'd like to venture into some of the mountainous regions of the islands where I might get lucky and see some parrots and less common residents.
